A unified link between the capital's key transport hubs

The Ministry of Transport has prepared a draft strategy for the comprehensive development of passenger transportation across Uzbekistan until 2030, as reported by Spot.uz. The document provides for harmonizing public transport based on chained integrated models in Tashkent and several other regions — taking into account their economic and tourism potential. Implementation will be the responsibility of the Ministry of Transport, regional khokimiyats and the Council of Ministers of Karakalpakstan.

What is planned for Tashkent

From July 2027, the capital plans to launch a unified transport link between the Northern and Southern railway stations, the airport and the central bus station. This concerns passengers who currently have to transfer between these hubs on their own: the project envisions a single route connecting all four points.

Suburban trains and other regions

The number of suburban electric trains running to the cities of the Tashkent agglomeration — Angren, Almalyk, Yangiyul and Chirchiq — is planned to be increased 1.5-fold, with the goal of providing passengers with a direct transfer to the metro.

Measures for other regions

The strategy also contains regional projects. By the end of 2027, Samarkand is expected to launch a tourist shuttle between the airport, the railway station, Registan Square, the Shah-i-Zinda ensemble, the Eternal City complex and major hotels, along with a unified digital navigation system for tourists. In 2027, the route of the high-speed Tashkent — Andijan electric train is to be extended to Samarkand. In Nukus, a bus rapid transit (BRT) corridor is planned along Ernazar Alakozy Street between Karakalpakstan Street and Chimboy Avenue. From February 2028, express buses are expected in Bukhara between the railway station, the airport, the old city and hotels. By the end of 2028, the number of trains on the circular route Kokand — Pop — Namangan — Andijan — Margilan — Kokand is planned to be doubled, and minibuses are to be launched between Pop station and the Namangan bus station.

Status of the document

The document is at the discussion stage: comments are accepted until November 11. Thus, all the timelines and routes listed are still plans set out in the draft strategy, not adopted decisions. Spot previously reportedthat in Tashkent the BRT bus lane on Shahrisabz Street was extended by another 1 km, and also wrote about plans for BRT buses.
