New sections for dedicated lanes
Tashkent khokim Shavkat Umurzakov signed a resolution on October 29 'On organizing dedicated bus lanes in the city of Tashkent.' The document approves a list of four sections of the capital's streets where repairs are planned and dedicated bus lanes will be organized under the BRT system (bus rapid transit). The total length of the sections will be 17.9 km. UzNews.uz reports on the signing of the resolution, the document itself is published on the e-qaror.gov.uz portal.
Where the work will take place
Work is planned on the following routes: Mukimi street, which runs through the Yakkasaray and Chilanzar districts — 4.6 km; Karatosh and Kukcha Darvoza streets in the Shaykhantakhur district — 4.2 km; Parkent street in the Mirzo Ulugbek district — 2.8 km; Mirzo Ulugbek avenue in the Mirzo Ulugbek district — 6.3 km. Thus, the new sections cover four districts of the city, with the longest being Mirzo Ulugbek avenue.
Who will carry out the work and how it will be funded
JSC Toshkent Invest kompaniyasi has been designated as the customer of the work. The company must ensure the selection of general design and contracting organizations, as well as technical supervision organizations or consulting engineers, in the manner established by law. Funding is provided through loans from commercial banks, funds of the Road and Transport Infrastructure Development Fund of the Tashkent khokimiyat, as well as the Tashkent City Development Fund. Separately, it was instructed to take measures for the preliminary allocation of 6.5 billion soums from the Tashkent Development Fund to cover the customer's expenses and prepare design documentation.
What this changes for the city
Before street repairs begin, municipal organizations must ensure the planned work on construction, repair and relocation of utility networks is carried out. If necessary, vehicle traffic may be temporarily restricted in road work areas — this will directly affect drivers and passengers on the listed streets. The resolution notes that creating dedicated lanes is aimed at raising the priority of public transport in the capital and improving conditions for passengers. For now, the resolution only fixes the organizational stage: selecting designers and contractors, preparing documentation and relocating networks — that is, the document says nothing about the timing of the repairs themselves. The new sections complement work already underway: as the outlet previously reported, BRT construction has started on Yangi Sergeli street in the Sergeli district and on Amir Temur avenue in the Yunusabad district.
