Three lines between airports and railway stations by 2030

Uzbekistan is preparing a Strategy for the comprehensive development of domestic passenger transport by rail, air and road up to 2030. As UzNews.uz reports, the document has been put forward for public discussion, which will last until 11 November; its text has been published on the portal for discussing draft regulatory acts.

What exactly is envisaged

The Strategy envisages building three railway lines in major cities by 2030, connecting airports with railway stations. In Tashkent, the new line will link the new airport with the capital's Northern railway station; similar projects are planned in Urgench and Bukhara, where the stations will be connected to the international airports. The targets will be phased in gradually: one line in 2026, two by 2029 and three by 2030.

How this will be implemented and financed

To implement the projects, it is proposed to develop feasibility studies and design and estimate documentation, allocate land plots, agree on engineering solutions, carry out construction and installation works and put the lines into operation. The document names loans from commercial banks, based on approved calculations, as the source of financing.

In addition: ground routes

In addition to the railway lines, by 2030 it is planned to organise 20 public transport routes connecting airports, railway stations and bus terminals. For now, the document is only at the discussion stage: the timelines and targets listed are the project's plans, not adopted decisions, and until 11 November they may be revised based on feedback.
