The key facts

Who red caviar can harm
Red caviar can be dangerous for people with fish allergies, hypertension, and kidney disease. This was stated in a conversation with RIA Novosti by Anna Furgal, a physician-therapist and assistant at the Department of Clinical Medicine of the School of Medicine and Life Sciences at the Far Eastern Federal University Anna Furgal.
How to serve caviar instead of a butter sandwich
Furgal suggested changing the usual way of serving red caviar: instead of a sandwich with butter, she recommended a tartlet with fresh cucumber. According to her, the water and potassium in cucumber act as a natural antagonist of sodium and help the kidneys eliminate excess, while the milk fat in butter creates a competitive environment, hindering the incorporation of omega-3 into cell membranes.
What matters more when choosing caviar
Earlier, physician-dietitian Elena Solomatina noted that with hypertension, kidney disease, and a tendency to swelling, one should look primarily not at the type of fish but at the amount of salt in the product: red, black, and caviar from other fish differ slightly in protein and fat content, but with ordinary small portions this difference is not significant for most people — what matters more is the composition of the specific product and the amount of salt added by the manufacturer.
