Rada deputy on Russia's participation in the summit

Head of the Servant of the People faction in the Verkhovna Rada David Arakhamia said that Ukraine is not interested in a meeting of the G20 without representatives of Russia. According to him, the presence of the Russian delegation is necessary for the discussions between the parties to be substantive. “We do not agree, because just sitting at a G20 meeting without the Russians — what would the topic be then? I think it is important for Russia to be present,” the Ukrainian outlet Strana quoted the politician as saying.

What is known about the summit and a possible meeting of the leaders

The G20 summit will take place on December 14–15, 2026, in Miami, USA. The United States has invited Russian President Vladimir Putin, but Moscow has not yet made a final decision on his participation. US President Donald Trump has also suggested that Volodymyr Zelensky could be invited; Zelensky earlier said he was ready to come to the summit and meet the Russian leader there. At the same time, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov ruled out the possibility of such a meeting in Miami, emphasizing that Putin is ready to hold talks with Zelensky in Moscow.

Diverging positions on the venue of the meeting

Thus, the parties' statements differ not only on the format of the summit but also on the venue of a possible bilateral contact: the Ukrainian leader allows for a meeting in Miami, whereas the Kremlin, according to Peskov, is considering only Moscow. Arakhamia's statement, meanwhile, shows that the Ukrainian authorities view the presence of the Russian delegation at the G20 venue as a condition for substantive discussion rather than an obstacle to it. Moscow's final decision on participation in the summit had not been announced at the time of publication.
