Meeting at the White House

US First Lady Melania Trump held a meeting at the White House with representatives of Russia and Ukraine on the outcomes of the humanitarian mission in Alyoshky. Russia was represented by Human Rights Commissioner Yana Lantratova and the president's special representative Kirill Dmitriev, while Ukraine was represented by ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets and the head of the Servant of the People party faction in parliament, David Arakhamia. This was reported by Kun.uz.

The First Lady's role and letters to the leaders

Melania Trump said she took part in preparing the mission at every stage: demining plans and aerial photographs were studied, the condition of roads, evacuation routes, the availability of medical facilities, transport options and the distribution of medical resources were assessed. 'Without me, there would have been no ceasefire,' she stated. She noted that the ceasefire in Alyoshky was achieved with the participation of the presidents of Russia and Ukraine, and called their cooperation an important precedent for advancing peace throughout the region. The First Lady handed over her personal letters to Volodymyr Zelensky and Vladimir Putin through Arakhamia and Dmitriev.

Evacuation: figures and disagreements between the sides

According to Melania Trump, about 800 people were evacuated from Alyoshky, but neither the Russian nor the Ukrainian side gave exact figures. In an interview shortly after the mission ended, Yana Lantratova said that 750 people had the opportunity to leave for Ukraine or Russia, but not everyone accepted the offer. Dmytro Lubinets, for his part, said the sides had agreed not to disclose how many people left Alyoshky for Ukraine and how many for Russia. Thus, the distribution of the evacuees between the two countries remains unknown.

Hope for a more lasting peace

Melania Trump expressed hope that the six-day ceasefire achieved in Alyoshky would lead to 'a more lasting peace': 'I hope the experience of Alyoshky will become an impetus for achieving a more lasting peace. Every big change starts with a small leap.' After her, Kirill Dmitriev spoke at the meeting, thanking the First Lady for saving 'many lives' and presenting her with a drawing by 11-year-old Lidiia, evacuated from the city, with the inscription 'I love Melania'.
