Cause of the bakery explosion in Vladikavkaz

The explosion of a gas-air mixture that occurred on November 6 on Morskikh Pekhotintsev Street in Vladikavkaz was the result of a violation of industrial equipment operating rules. According to the press service of Gazprom Gazoraspredelenie Vladikavkaz, a bakery employee opened the gas valve but only began lighting the oven after a considerable delay, which led to gas accumulation and the subsequent explosion.

Consequences and the response of oversight authorities

As a result of the incident, a 41-year-old woman was injured and was taken to intensive care in critical condition. The prosecutor's office of the North-Western district of Vladikavkaz has launched an investigation into the incident. This is not the first such case in the region: in October, a gas cylinder exploded in an apartment in Kaspiysk, Dagestan, though no one was injured then, despite window frames and glass being blown out, as reported by Gazeta.Ru.
