Election night: from euphoria to anxiety

On the night of November 4, 2026, supporters of the Democrats in the United States experienced euphoria, while supporters of the Republicans felt anxiety: as the votes were counted, the mood in the two parties' camps moved in opposite directions. The campaign headquarters of both parties had organized election-night watch events across the country in advance. Footage of that night was published by the outlet Kun.uz.

Control of both chambers

The final results have not yet been officially announced, however, as Kun.uz notes, it is already known that the Republicans, led by Donald Trump, whose approval rating has declined, lost the election, and the Democrats took control of both the House of Representatives and the Senate.

Key victories by state

In Texas, the incumbent state attorney general, Republican Ken Paxton, ran for the Senate but lost to Democrat James Talarico. In Ohio, the Democratic candidate Amy Acton won the gubernatorial election and became the first woman elected to that post; in the state's Senate race, Democrat Sherrod Brown also won. In Michigan, Democrat Jocelyn Benson won the gubernatorial election.
