Extradition of a suspect in large-scale financial fraud
Russia has handed over to China a businessman accused of embezzling several billion yuan raised from depositors under the guise of investments in financial projects. This was reported by Irina Volk, official spokesperson of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs, according to Life.ru citing TASS.
The Chinese investigators' version
According to the Chinese side, from 2018 to 2024 the man, through a company he had founded, raised money from the public, offering investments in various financial products with a promised return of up to 11.5% per annum. At the same time, he had neither permission from regulatory authorities nor the authority to accept deposits from the public. Among the projects offered were both real and fictitious ones. Over six years, according to the investigation, the suspect embezzled deposits totaling several billion yuan, and investors suffered significant losses.
Detention and handover
After a criminal case was opened, the man left China and was placed on international wanted lists, but about a year ago he was detained in Tatarstan. The Prosecutor General's Office of Russia granted the Chinese side's extradition request. At Sheremetyevo, officers of the National Central Bureau of Interpol of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Federal Penitentiary Service handed the suspect over to representatives of Chinese law enforcement agencies for transport to Beijing.
Another extradition case
The same Ministry of Internal Affairs report separately mentions another case: a man accused of organizing an underground drug laboratory in Voronezh was extradited from Serbia to Russia. According to the ministry, in 2023 he set up an amphetamine production laboratory in a residential building for subsequent distribution, and after prohibited substances were discovered he fled abroad. In October 2024 he was placed on international wanted lists, and in March 2026 he was detained in Serbia.
