The key facts
- The Metro refuted rumors about five-car trains being launched by November 20
- By September 2027, 54 trains — 80% of the fleet — are planned to be converted to five cars
- Intervals between trains are being reduced to 2–3 minutes by using reserve trains
Refutation and official plan
The Tashkent Metro has refuted information circulating on social media about plans to put five-car trains into operation by November 20. The company's press service emphasized that such reports 'do not correspond to reality' and urged the public to rely on official sources, reports Spot.uz.
What is planned instead
At the same time, the metro is indeed working on extending its trains, but on a different timeline. Together with the Ministry of Transport and the capital's Kengash, a concept has been developed for purchasing additional cars: by September 2027, 54 trains are planned to be converted to a five-car configuration — 80% of the existing fleet. The date, as noted in the announcement, was calculated taking into account the production, procurement and delivery timelines for the cars to Tashkent, as well as the resolution of organizational issues.
Shorter intervals already now
Given the high passenger traffic, measures are being taken to reduce the intervals between trains to an average of 2–3 minutes by bringing in reserve trains. Thus, the refutation concerns specifically the timeline: five-car trains will not appear in the near future, but the transition to longer trains remains part of the official plan with a horizon up to the autumn of 2027. Earlier, Spot reported that Chinese trains may appear in the Tashkent Metro.
