Evacuation of the wounded and attacked vessels

Oman said on Friday that it had carried out a medical evacuation of a wounded crew member of an Indian boat that came under attack in the Strait of Hormuz. According to a statement by the Moral Guidance Directorate of the Armed Forces, the evacuation was carried out by the Royal Air Force of Oman together with the relevant agencies: the injured man was airlifted from Khasab hospital in the northern province of Musandam to Khoula Hospital in the capital, Muscat, for specialized treatment. This was reported by the Turkish news agency Anadolu citing the military's statement on the social network X.

Fire on a commercial vessel and a tanker

Earlier, the Royal Navy of Oman announced the evacuation of 25 crew members from a commercial vessel that caught fire after an attack 1.6 nautical miles off the coast of Musandam. The same day, United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) reported that a tanker caught fire in the strait after an attack with two explosive devices late on Thursday, 25 nautical miles northeast of Khasab.

Context of tensions

The incidents come amid growing threats to commercial shipping in the Persian Gulf, the Strait of Hormuz and adjacent waters, where several attacks and maritime incidents have been recorded in recent months. They also coincided with ongoing tensions between Iran and the United States over shipping through the strait — a key artery of global energy supplies and trade. According to the agency, the conflict began with US and Israeli attacks on Iran on February 28, followed by a ceasefire in April; hostilities between Washington and Tehran resumed in July after the talks stalled.
