The key facts
- In Saint Petersburg in November, during cold snaps, night frosts down to minus 17 degrees are possible, and down to minus 10 during the day.
- For most of the month, the daytime temperature will be around zero, and at night minus 1–6 degrees.
- According to the forecaster, the average monthly temperature will slightly exceed the climate norm.
Frosts stronger than normal — but short-lived
In Saint Petersburg, frosts down to minus 17 degrees are possible in November, although the last month of autumn is overall expected to be slightly warmer than the climate norm. TASS was told this by Lyudmila Parshina, leading specialist at the Hydrometeorological Center of Russia; the forecast is reported by Life.ru.
What forecasters promise
According to Parshina, for most of November the daytime temperature in the city will hover around zero, while at night it will drop to minus 1–6 degrees. However, individual cold snaps may be noticeably stronger: «At night, during cold snaps, it may be chilly here — minus 12–17, and the daytime temperature may also be lower than in the capital, during cold snaps — minus 5–10 degrees,» the specialist warned. Thus, during the coldest periods Saint Petersburg may turn out to be frostier than Moscow, but we are talking about short-lived cold snaps, not temperatures that will persist throughout the month. Despite the likelihood of strong night frosts, the average monthly temperature, according to the Hydrometeorological Center's assessment, will slightly exceed the usual values for this time of year.
Context of the November forecast
Earlier, Life.ru cited preliminary calculations for November 2026 for various regions of Russia: in Saint Petersburg, frequent precipitation, gradual cooling and a transition from rain to wet snow were expected, while individual periods of the month could turn out warmer than the climate norm. The new comment from the Hydrometeorological Center specialist clarifies the picture, adding to the precipitation scenario the probability of sharp night cold snaps down to minus 12–17 degrees.
