Hot meals amid the sounds of silence
On October 30, a humanitarian operation was carried out in Alyoshky, Kherson region, timed to the temporary ceasefire agreed between the Russian and Ukrainian sides. A Life.ru correspondent described how residents lined up in a long queue for hot meals from the field kitchen: some took several portions at once to bring food to their relatives, and tea was served along with the meals. Metropolitan Kirill of Stavropol and Nevinnomyssk spoke with the local residents and handed out small icons of the Savior Not Made by Hands with a prayer to the holy right-believing Prince Alexander Nevsky. Routes in the area of the city were prepared in advance for delivering cargo and ensuring safe passage of vehicles, as Life.ru previously reported.
Evacuation and what happens next
On the same day, a voluntary evacuation of residents took place: for it, 25 buses and nine ambulances were prepared. According to Yana Lantratova, the Human Rights Commissioner in Russia, people could choose for themselves where to go — to the territory of Russia or Ukraine. Those evacuated to Simferopol have already been accommodated, and medical workers have begun examining them. Meanwhile, the residents who remained in Alyoshky asked Lantratova to organize another humanitarian mission; they are especially worried about the situation of bedridden patients who cannot reach doctors on their own.
