Bulava launch from the Sea of Okhotsk

The crew of the Generalissimo Suvorov nuclear-powered submarine cruiser of the Pacific Fleet launched an intercontinental ballistic Bulava missile, Russia's Defense Ministry reported. The launch was carried out from an underwater position as part of combat training: the missile was fired from the Sea of Okhotsk toward the Chizh test range in Arkhangelsk Oblast, which is used for testing missile weaponry. Footage of the launch was published by the Zvezda Telegram channel.

What is known about the vessel

The Generalissimo Suvorov is a Project 955A Borei-A ballistic missile submarine with hull number K-553, built to a design by the St. Petersburg Rubin Central Design Bureau for Marine Engineering. This is not the only recent missile exercise by the Pacific Fleet: as Life.ru previously reported, the multipurpose nuclear submarine K-573 Novosibirsk during a scheduled exercise in the Pacific Ocean struck coastal and sea targets — a land target at the Kura range in Kamchatka with a Kalibr cruise missile from a distance of more than 1,200 kilometers, and a surface target simulating a ship of a hypothetical enemy with an Oniks missile from a range of over 170 kilometers.
