New fees on the Termez — Afghanistan route

The press service of Uzbekistan Temir Yollari announced the introduction of additional fees for delivering to Termez cargo that is subsequently exported to Afghanistan. The company explains the new payments as being aimed at preventing revenue losses for the joint-stock company. The fee amount depends on the type of cargo and the distance of transportation, reports Spot.uz.

Fee amounts

For most cargo (excluding HS codes 1001, 27090090, 2710, 2711, 27090010, 3901 and 3902), when transported within Uzbekistan with subsequent transloading at Termez station and export to Afghanistan, the following payments per wagon are set. When delivered by rail: for a distance of 600–800 km — 800,000 soums, 801–1000 km — 1,000,000 soums, 1001 km and more — 1,300,000 soums. When transported by road, the rates are higher: 0–300 km — 2,800,000 soums, 301–600 km — 5,200,000 soums, 601–800 km — 6,600,000 soums, 801 km and more — 7,600,000 soums. All amounts are given excluding VAT.

Context

Earlier, Spot.uz wrote that Uzbekistan Temir Yollari and CRRC may establish the production of freight wagons with retractable wheelsets. The company itself announced the introduction of the fees on its Telegram channel.

Why it matters

The innovation directly affects exporters and cargo owners sending goods to Afghanistan via Termez: their logistics costs will increase by an amount ranging from 800,000 to 7.6 million soums per wagon depending on the mode and distance of delivery. In practical terms, this means recalculating the cost of shipments on the Afghan route, with road delivery becoming noticeably more expensive than rail across all distance ranges.
