The cabin for lunar missions

NASA and SpaceX have shown images of the Starship habitation cabin being built for the Artemis lunar program. The footage was presented at a briefing at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida dedicated to accelerating work on the program, reports Kun.uz.

What the interior looks like

Cabin 1 is currently being assembled at the Starfactory facility at the Starbase spaceport in Texas. One photo shows a brightly lit narrow compartment: its walls are lined with white soft panels, the ceiling panel has a wood-like finish, and inside there is a soft structure resembling a bed with attached straps. Another image shows a row of cut-out openings for windows in the steel section of the Starship hull; in yet another frame, workers are outfitting the structure.

Work schedule

Along with the cabin images, NASA presented an updated schedule of key milestones in the spacecraft's development, covering work up to the mission to land astronauts on the Moon planned for 2028. According to the schedule, assembly of Cabin 1 is to be completed in the fourth quarter of 2026, testing of onboard systems is scheduled for the first quarter of 2027, and a demonstration of the airlock's operation is set for the second quarter of the same year.

What the cabin is for

The cabin is intended primarily for preparation for the Artemis IV mission and subsequent expeditions. Engineers will use it to test equipment, while crews will train in conditions close to real flight conditions.
