Multi-day outages and residents' complaints
Residents of Kyiv are mass-complaining about prolonged power outages and the failure to follow established schedules: in some buildings there was no electricity for up to five days, and appeals to the power company brought no results. The Ukrainian agency UNIAN reported this, citing local residents; Life.ru published a piece on the matter. The situation was especially severe in certain buildings in the Shevchenkivskyi district: resident Natalia Kalynichenko said that on Yuriy Hlushko Street there had been no electricity since November 1, while appeals to DTEK, municipal services and the district administration ended with requests to wait. Meanwhile, neighboring buildings on the same line received electricity intermittently, and in the problem buildings power sometimes came on for only 15 minutes. The outages were compounded by disruptions to heating and water supply.
Protests and discrepancies with the power company's data
Discontent spilled into street actions: residents of the Vinohradar neighborhood blocked roads, trying to draw attention to three days without electricity; similar protests took place in the Akademmistechko area, in Obolon, and near the Zhytomyrska metro station. Life.ru had earlier reported on the road blockades in Vinohradar caused by the prolonged outages. On social media, Kyiv residents also point to discrepancies between the actual situation and the information provided by the power company: according to users, when they contacted DTEK they were told that electricity at their addresses was already on or would be restored soon, even though the buildings remained without power.
The company's explanation and the schedules for November 8
The power company itself attributes the lengthy disruptions to numerous accidents: according to DTEK, damage to infrastructure and high load on the grids lead to additional failures, and after supply is restored residents simultaneously switch on powerful household appliances, creating the risk of new accidents. Meanwhile, the published schedules for November 8 provide for about 18 hours without electricity per day for certain groups of consumers in Kyiv; the actual duration of outages may turn out to be longer due to accidents and emergency restrictions. According to Life.ru, Zelensky earlier named the regions of Ukraine where the electricity situation is the most severe.
