Request over the Nha Trang outbreak

Rospotrebnadzor has sent a request to Vietnam's Ministry of Health and the Association of Tour Operators of Russia (ATOR) following reports that Russian tourists had fallen ill with influenza. The agency's press service explained that the matter concerns media reports about the city of Nha Trang: the agency has requested official information on the epidemiological situation, preventive measures, and the informing of tourists traveling to the Republic of Vietnam.

What is known about those infected

The Telegram channel SHOT reported that an unknown virus has affected Russian tourists in Vietnam; the outbreak was detected in Nha Trang, one of the country's main resorts. Those who fell ill complained that flu symptoms appeared after their arrival. One tourist said that his daughter had a runny nose in the evening, and by morning she had developed a fever and a severe headache; the child was hospitalized. According to local doctors, several such cases have already been identified at the resort, but they are unable to determine the type of virus; many of the patients are children.

Context

This is not the agency's first request of this kind: earlier, Rospotrebnadzor requested information about influenza A among Russian tourists in Dubai. There is no official data from the Vietnamese side on the situation in Nha Trang in the publication yet — the agency has only initiated the request, and the nature of the illness remains unclear.
