The key facts
- Rospotrebnadzor appealed to Vietnam's Ministry of Health and requested data from ATOR about tourists who fell ill in Nha Trang
- Tourists reported high temperature, severe cough and headache; among those who fell ill there are children
- The Russian Union of Travel Industry called the incidence level usual for the season
Requests to Hanoi and ATOR
Rospotrebnadzor sent an official appeal to the Ministry of Health of Vietnam and requested information from the Association of Tour Operators of Russia (ATOR) following reports of Russian tourists falling ill in Nha Trang. This was announced by the agency's press service. The agency intends to find out what the epidemiological situation is at the resort, what measures are being taken to prevent infection, and whether tourists are being warned about the risks of infection.
What tourists reported
The trigger was complaints from vacationers about high temperature, severe cough, runny nose and headache at the popular resort. According to the tourists, local doctors cannot always make an accurate diagnosis, limiting themselves to prescribing medications; among those who fell ill there are children. Some vacationers suggest that the spread of the illness may be linked to contaminated air conditioners in hotels — this version has not been confirmed in the publications and remains an assumption of the tourists themselves.
The tourism industry's assessment differs from the picture of complaints
The picture from the industry's side looks different: the Russian Union of Travel Industry stated that influenza incidence in Vietnam remains at the level usual for the season, and no mass complaints about poor health have been received from organized Russian tourists. Thus, at this point there are only reports from individual vacationers, whereas the organized tourist flow has not generated complaints; the data from the Vietnamese Ministry of Health and ATOR, which Rospotrebnadzor requested, have not yet been published. Against the backdrop of these appeals, the agency reminded people about the prevention of respiratory infections: avoid close contact with sick people, wash hands regularly, and seek medical help if symptoms appear.
