The key facts

  • The estate includes apartments in Moscow and New Moscow, personal archives, and the actress's copyrights
  • Rights to Vasily Shukshin's intellectual property may remain outside the estate
  • The lawyer believes a will exists, but its details are not being disclosed

What will be included in the estate

People's Artist Lidia Fedoseeva-Shukshina has died at the age of 88. For the past several weeks she had been in intensive care with heart failure and pneumonia; doctors placed her in a medically induced coma and put her on a ventilator, and the illness was deemed incurable. The date of the farewell ceremony for the actress had already been announced earlier.

Composition of the estate and disputed rights

The actress's passing, according to lawyer Alexander Khaminsky, head of the Center for Law and Order in Moscow and Moscow Region, speaking to Gazeta.Ru, could become grounds for conflict over the probate case. The key feature, in his words, is the heterogeneous composition of the estate: besides real estate, it will include the actress's personal archives and her own copyright. The real estate includes an apartment on Bochkov Street, where Fedoseeva-Shukshina lived with her husband Vasily Shukshin, and residential property in New Moscow, returned through the courts after transactions with Bari Alibasov were declared invalid.

Rights to Shukshin's legacy and the order of inheritance

A separate question concerns the rights to Vasily Shukshin's intellectual property. According to Khaminsky, these rights were once distributed among relatives, and the actress herself, according to available information, lost her share after transferring the rights 'into management' to her elder daughter Maria, which legally amounted to alienation. A dispute over this situation, initiated by the younger daughter Olga, ended with the claim being denied. Now, the lawyer noted, it remains to be determined whether these assets will be included in the general estate or remain outside it.

The will and possible scenarios

Khaminsky is convinced that Fedoseeva-Shukshina's will exists, but its details are not being disclosed. He suggested that the question of the proportions in which property and rights are divided, as well as whether the actress understood the essence of her actions when drawing up the document, could become the subject of separate proceedings. If the will cannot be executed for any reason, inheritance will proceed by law, in which case the shares between the daughters may be equal. In the lawyer's view, this case could become another difficult episode in Russian practice in recent years, in which the legal validity of transactions involving rights and real estate will be examined in light of all the circumstances under which they were made.
