Icy roads keep the region on alert for the third night
A 'yellow' level of weather danger due to the risk of ice formation has been in effect in the Moscow Region for the third night in a row. As reported by Gazeta.Ru citing TASS and Russia's Hydrometcenter, icy patches are expected on some roads in Moscow and the Moscow Region overnight and in the morning. The regime will be in effect from 21:00 MSK to 09:00 MSK on Saturday, November 7; a similar level was declared on Wednesday night and on the past night.
The coldest night of autumn and warming to follow
According to forecasters, the temperature in Moscow will drop to -3°C overnight, and to -6°C in the region. It cannot be ruled out that this may become the coldest night since the beginning of autumn, which directly affects road conditions: it is precisely nighttime sub-zero temperatures after snowfalls that create icy patches, the reason the warning was extended.
What is forecast for next week
Against the backdrop of a prolonged cold snap, the head of short-range weather forecasting at Russia's Hydrometcenter Alexander Golubev announced a slight warming in the capital at the beginning of next week. According to him, it will be linked to clearing skies and the arrival of a warmer air mass from the northwest. Thus, the current danger regime is temporary: it covers only Saturday night and morning, while forecasters attribute the change in conditions to next week.
