The key facts
- 30% of Russians do all their New Year shopping at the last moment
- 24% start preparing in early December, 4% have already finished shopping
- Many are waiting for a bonus or a thirteenth salary paid at the end of December
When Russians prepare for the holiday
Nearly a third of Russians put off their New Year shopping until the last moment every year — both gifts and food for the festive table. These figures come from a kp.ru survey, the results of which are reported by Gazeta.Ru. According to the study, 30% of respondents cannot plan their free time and finances in advance, so they do all their shopping in a rush. They often have to wait for a bonus or a thirteenth salary, which are paid out at the end of December.
Other answers
Another 24% of survey participants start preparing in early December: they do not like rushing around and set aside about two months for buying gifts, decorations and food. 4% of respondents each said they had already bought everything they needed, including food, and chose the 'other' option — some of them admitted they do not celebrate the New Year at all. Most of those surveyed believe that starting preparations in November is too early, and plan to do their shopping and decorate their homes only from the beginning of December.
Context
Earlier, as Gazeta.Ru notes, Russians were told which foods for the New Year tableare worth buying right now. It should be taken into account that the editorial office has a retelling of the survey results by the publication; the research methodology itself is not described in detail in the article.
