The key facts
- Maria Voropaeva (LDPR) proposed extending childcare benefit payments until age three or until the parent returns to work
- Currently the benefit is paid only for the first 1.5 years
- Under the draft Social Fund budget, from February 1, 2027 the minimum benefit for working citizens may amount to 11,395 rubles
Proposal to extend payments
State Duma Deputy Speaker Maria Voropaeva (LDPR), in an interview with TASS cited by Gazeta.Ru, said that the period for paying the childcare benefit should be extended from the current 1.5 years until the parent returns to work or until the child turns three.
What is currently in effect and what is included in the budget
It is important to separate the initiative from the current rules: at present, the childcare benefit is paid only for the first 1.5 years, and the parliamentarian's proposal does not yet mean a change in the law. At the same time, the draft budget of the Social Fund of Russia already contains a specific figure for the near term: from February 1, 2027, the minimum childcare benefit for children under 1.5 years for working citizens may amount to 11,395 rubles. Thus, in the near term only a possible indexation of the existing payment is confirmed, while the extension of the period remains a stated position of the faction.
Context of other payments
Gazeta.Ru also recalls earlier materials by lawyer Ekaterina Rydchenko: according to her, the birth of a child entitles a family not only to maternity capital — in 2026 one can claim several federal payments at the same time, and in some cases regional support as well. Separately, she explained how maternity capital is divided in a divorce if the children remain with different parents. These publications concern already existing support measures and are not related to the proposal to extend the benefit period.
