The key facts
- Apples fell in price by 7.5% over October — to 141.8 rubles per kg
- Prices for carrots, onions, cabbage and sugar also declined
- In the winter of 2026/27 the meat market will face rising costs; chicken is expected to become more expensive
Vegetables and fruits are getting cheaper, while the meat segment is under pressure
Apples became the product with the biggest price drop in Russia in October: over the month their price fell by 7.5%, to 141.8 rubles per kilogram. RIA Novosti was told this by Rusprodsoyuz. The top five products with the largest price declines also included carrots (-5.2%), onions (-4.7%), cabbage (-4.2%) and sugar (-2.6%).
Meat: a contrast with the seasonal price decline
The picture in the meat segment looks different. As previously reported, in the winter of 2026/27 the meat market will face rising costs and changes in consumer demand: against the backdrop of more expensive feed, fuel and logistics, chicken prices are increasing, pork remains a more affordable option, while beef keeps its high price due to the long production cycle.
What the production data show
According to the expert and analytical center for agribusiness AB-Center, in the first half of 2026 Russia produced 5.8 million tons of meat — 20 thousand tons less than in the same period last year. Pork output grew by 3.7%, while beef production fell by 3.9%, poultry by 2.8%, lamb and goat meat by 3.9%, and other types of meat by 8.4%. These figures are consistent with the forecast of diverging price dynamics: pork, where production is growing, remains affordable, while beef, with declining output and a long production cycle, stays expensive.
Context
Earlier, Gazeta.Ru reported that in Russia one of the main holiday salads became cheaper. The October decline in prices for vegetables, fruits and sugar fits the typical autumn seasonality, but the available materials contain no reports on whether this trend will continue in November.
