The key facts

  • September clothing imports from the US — $3.03 million, a 14-month low
  • Over three quarters, clothing supplies grew 1.7-fold to $35.9 million
  • Footwear imports fell 13% to $1.5 million — the lowest since February 2026

September decline against nine-month growth

Clothing supplies from the US to Russia in September 2026 fell by 17% compared with August, amounting to $3.03 million — the lowest figure in the last fourteen months. This is reported by Gazeta.Ru citing US customs data published by RIA Novosti. At the same time, over the first three quarters, total clothing imports grew 1.7-fold, reaching $35.9 million: the September dip has not yet erased the growth accumulated over the year.

What exactly was purchased

The bulk of September purchases was women's everyday clothing — suits, trousers, skirts and similar items — worth $1.2 million. Another $915 thousand went to tank tops and pullovers, and $524 thousand to other clothing items.

Footwear: the same trend

A similar dynamic is seen in the footwear segment: September footwear supplies from the US amounted to $1.5 million — the lowest since February 2026. The decline was 13% both month-on-month and year-on-year, but over the three quarters footwear imports grew 1.6-fold — to $15.5 million. Thus, in both clothing and footwear, September was a local dip against the backdrop of overall growth in supplies since the beginning of the year.

Context

Earlier, in October, it was reportedthat German Adidas, which produces sportswear, footwear and accessories, registered a trademark in Russia until 2035. Before that, in September, Russia launched a clothing brand in honor of the decree on traditional values. These events are not directly related to the September import statistics, but they reflect the overall dynamics of the Russian clothing market.
