The indicator worsened over the year

The share of tap water samples failing to meet sanitary standards for chemical composition in Russia reached 12.24% by the end of 2025, up from 11.64% a year earlier. This was reported by the Telegram channel Baza, which Life.ru cites. In a number of regions, the figures turned out to be noticeably worse than the national average.

Where the situation is worst

The most serious problems were recorded in Kalmykia: in the Gorodovikovsky district, all water samples taken from the distribution network failed to meet sanitary and chemical standards. Substances exceeding permissible concentrations include iron, silicon, nitrates and nitrites. An unfavorable trend was also noted in the Kaliningrad region: over the year, the share of samples with microbiological deviations grew there, and there were also complaints about iron content, odor, taste and color of the water.

Residents' complaints and possible causes

Deviations from standards were also found in the Moscow, Ryazan, Tambov, Pskov, Kostroma, Belgorod and Voronezh regions; common problems include elevated iron and manganese content and high water hardness. In the Moscow region, according to the outlet, 17% of samples from the distribution network failed to meet standards. Against this backdrop, residents of various regions complain of dry and irritated skin, itching after showering and hair loss; however, as noted in the publication, it is impossible to establish the cause of such symptoms without a medical examination and laboratory analysis of the water. Rospotrebnadzor specialists cite the condition of water supply networks, accidents and repair work among factors that can degrade water quality.

Context from Tyumen

Earlier, Life.ru reported on complaints from residents of Tyumen about strange tap water: city residents said that instead of clear water, a murky yellowish liquid with white flakes and foam flowed from their faucets, and after showering their skin felt sticky and their hair greasy. The publications do not establish a link between these complaints and the nationwide water quality statistics.
