Residents of Pretoria's suburbs banned from drinking tap water due to an outbreak of intestinal illnesses
The City of Tshwane municipality, which includes South Africa's capital Pretoria, warned residents of several areas about the danger of tap water after more than 400 people sought medical help. E. coli was found in the water, and patients tested positive for norovirus, campylobacter and shigella. The cause was failures at the Bronkhorstspruit water treatment plant, which operated for three weeks without chlorination.
