What the study revealed
Rice porridge turned out to be Muscovites' favorite breakfast: it appears most often in morning orders from residents of the capital, as well as Yekaterinburg and Kazan. This was reported by the Moscow 24 TV channel, citing a study by Yandex Lavka. Other preferences vary considerably by geography: syrniki lead in Krasnodar, Nizhny Novgorod, Rostov-on-Don and St. Petersburg, in Novosibirsk pancakes with butter are ordered more often, and in Veliky Novgorod, Vladimir, Perm and Tambov — chickenburgers.
Weekdays versus weekends
According to the survey, morning habits on weekdays are largely linked to a lack of time: 23% of participants usually skip breakfast, and when choosing between an extra 20–30 minutes of sleep and a leisurely meal, 72% prefer to sleep. Another 26% in such a situation limit themselves to tea or coffee. Among hot drinks, a medium-sized cappuccino is the most popular choice. On weekends the picture changes: 22% of respondents try to cook a full breakfast themselves, 21% sit down at the table later, 17% eat longer, and orders show a growing share of products for a homemade meal — cottage cheese, butter and milk.
Unusual morning orders
Some shoppers do not stick to a traditional morning menu: 64% of Russians are willing to eat in the morning a dish that is usually chosen for lunch or dinner, and 29% sometimes have yesterday's food for breakfast. On weekends, demand for beef-flavored noodles rises noticeably — by 90% in Yaroslavl, 89% in Yekaterinburg, 86% in Tyumen, 80% in Ryazan and 48% in Moscow. Every fourth respondent is willing to cook an unusual dish themselves, and 19% are ready to buy unusual products for it.
Survey methodology
The survey involved more than 1,279 residents of Russian cities with populations over one million. In addition, specialists analyzed 11.6 million orders placed in 22 cities from February to August between 07:00 and 11:00. Gazeta.Ru also reminds readers that Russians have recently begun ordering sushi roll sets for dinner 5.4 times more often.
