Mass inspections of environmental compliance

The National Committee for Ecology and Climate Change, together with its territorial administrations, carried out raids in Tashkent and Tashkent Region aimed at improving air quality and ensuring compliance with environmental requirements. As UzNews.uz reports, the activities of 722 facilities were inspected: 602 greenhouses, 56 industrial and manufacturing enterprises, 26 construction sites and 38 facilities of other categories.

Fines and suspension of operations

For the violations identified, administrative fines totaling 286 million soums were imposed in 516 cases. The operations of three facilities were suspended — two greenhouses and one construction site. At the greenhouses, coal was being burned without functioning filters or with no filters at all, and plant waste was also being burned: at two enterprises in the Tashkent district, coal was burned with faulty filters, and the greenhouse of one individual, which operated without filters, was shut down. Greenhouse owners were briefed on the requirements of the relevant government resolution and issued mandatory compliance orders.

Violations at construction sites

At one construction site, dust suppression equipment and wheel-washing facilities were absent, and the unauthorized placement of more than 87,000 cubic meters of soil was detected — the owner was fined for failing to take measures to prevent dust formation. Similar measures were taken in response to violations in the Mirzo Ulugbek and Sergeli districts. Following inspections of construction sites, compensation payments amounting to 9 billion 96 million soums were assessed.

The case of the developer on Zharkurgan Street

Separately, eco-policing officers inspected a company building a multi-story residential complex on Zharkurgan Street in the Yashnabad district. According to the inspection, the developer failed to comply with environmental expertise requirements: the site had no truck wheel-washing stations, as a result of which dirt and soil were spread along the road for 2–2.5 km; the company failed to provide documents on the removal of more than 494,000 tons of construction waste and soil; 12,000 tons of illegally stored waste were found on the site; and 51 trees were cut down without permission. Compensation of 5.18 billion soums was assessed for environmental pollution and illegal waste placement, plus another 396 million soums for the destruction of trees. The developer was ordered to plant 5,100 saplings and care for them for three years, and the company's director was fined 4.4 million soums. The raids continue around the clock.
