The key facts
- The heat carrier temperature in Moscow's trunk networks has been raised to 82–84 degrees
- The regime is designed for an average daily air temperature of about +1 degree
- Decisions to change parameters are made in advance due to the system's thermal inertia
Raising the temperature in heating networks
Specialists of the Moscow United Energy Company (MOEK) have raised the temperature of the heat carrier in the trunk networks to 82–84 degrees against the backdrop of November cold weather, the organization's press service told TASS. The new regime is designed for an average daily air temperature of about one degree above zero; the minimum water temperature in trunk heating networks is usually 75 degrees.
What this means for apartments
The company emphasized that this concerns the temperature in city pipelines, not directly in apartment radiators: the heating of radiators is regulated automatically depending on the weather and the specifics of each building's system. The equipment's operation is monitored by dispatch services — sensors at heating points transmit data to a unified monitoring system. MOEK chief engineer Roman Korovin said that in the future the online dispatch system may be integrated with metering devices in residential buildings to identify the causes of temperature deviations faster.
Why the heating cannot be increased instantly
MOEK explained that the system has significant thermal inertia, and a sharp change in temperature affects the expansion of metal pipes and equipment. Therefore, the decision to change parameters is made in advance, taking into account short-term and medium-term weather forecasts. Over the past ten years, the earliest first temperature increase in heating networks was carried out on October 6, 2019, and the latest on November 10, 2025.
If your apartment is cold

Expert Daniil Fridman explained that an electric convector heats a room faster, while an oil-filled radiator retains accumulated heat longer.
