The key facts

  • Demand for magnesium on marketplaces has been growing by 3% monthly since the beginning of the year
  • 60% of magnesium buyers are women, with age shares nearly equal — from 14 to 18%
  • Fiber is bought most often by pensioners and least often by young people under 24

Growing demand and the buyer profile

Purchases of magnesium on marketplaces in Russia are steadily increasing: since the beginning of the year, demand has been growing by about 3% per month. These figures come from analysts of the big data department of telecom operator T2, reports Gazeta.Ru, citing RIA Novosti. The main buyers are women, who account for 60% of purchases. At the same time, the shares across age categories barely differ: the supplement is bought by everyone from teenagers to people of retirement age, with the shares of the groups ranging from 14 to 18%.

Fiber: demand depends on age

According to the same big data, demand for fiber is distributed differently by age: the older the buyer, the more often they purchase this supplement. It is bought most often by pensioners and least often by young people under 24.

Doctor: supplements are not necessary

Against the backdrop of growing purchases, it is worth considering the position of doctors. Endocrinologist, dietitian, and eating behavior psychologist Pavel Baranov saidthat magnesium is a mineral essential for health: it contributes to energy production, regulates neuromuscular transmission, and participates in many other reactions of the body. However, according to him, the widespread belief that magnesium must be taken as a supplement is a myth: a proper diet provides the body with the entire necessary daily dose, so there is no need for additional supplements.

What else is known

Earlier, a pharmacist explainedwhich type of magnesium is best absorbed by the body. The sources do not report the reasons for the seasonal or other growth in demand, nor the volumes of purchases.
