Discount on e-tickets and going cashless

Uzbekistan's Ministry of Transport has published for public discussion a draft presidential decree, providing for the adoption of a strategy for the comprehensive development of domestic passenger transport by rail, air and road until 2030, taking into account their mutual coordination. This was reported by Daryo.uz.

Terms and timeframes

According to the draft, from January 1, 2027 to December 31, 2029, passengers purchasing electronic tickets for suburban trains, as well as suburban and intercity bus routes, will receive a discount of at least 20%. The goals of the measure are said to be encouraging the use of electronic payment and ticketing systems, transparent accounting of passenger transportation, and reducing the share of the shadow economy.

Additional benefits and integration

The draft also provides a benefit for long-distance train passengers: within 12 hours before the departure time indicated on the ticket and 12 hours after arrival at the destination, they will be able to use suburban trains of the relevant region free of charge. In addition, the train e-ticket sales system is planned to be integrated with the information systems and databases of e-government and the Unified Identification System — one month is allotted for this work, and data exchange between systems must take place electronically free of charge.

Context

It was previously reported that Uzbekistan may introduce a unified ticketing system for planes, trains and buses. The new measures are still a draft: the document is at the public discussion stage, and there have been no publications yet about its approval or final effective dates.
