Entry refusals: figures and reasons

Over the first nine months of 2026, 711 foreign citizens were refused entry at Georgia's airports, 473 of them citizens of Uzbekistan. This was reported by the news agencyciting data from Uzbekistan Airways, as noted by Gazeta.uz. Among the main reasons for refusals are the inability to clearly explain the purpose of the trip, the lack of a hotel booking and return tickets, as well as the inability to confirm having a medical insurance policy and sufficient funds. Uzbek citizens planning a trip are advised to prepare all supporting documents in advance and answer border control questions clearly and consistently.

Insurance requirements

The number of refusals should be viewed in the context of tightened entry rules: as of January 1, 2026, all foreigners arriving in Georgia for tourism purposes are required to have a valid policy of medical insurance and accident insurance. As stated on the website of the Georgian consular service, the policy must be issued in Georgian or English (in paper or electronic form) and must cover the entire period of stay in the country; the minimum insurance amount is 30,000 Georgian lari (about 11,154 US dollars). Holders of diplomatic and service passports, employees of international organizations and their family members, as well as drivers of international freight and passenger transport, are exempt from the mandatory policy. Thus, a significant share of refusals for Uzbek citizens is linked to requirements whose absence, since the beginning of the year, is in itself grounds for refusing entry.
