The key facts

  • On the night of November 2, air quality in Tashkent is expected to be 'unhealthy' on the AQI and 'yellow' on the national index
  • Weak wind and a temperature inversion limit air exchange; PM2.5 and PM10 particles accumulate near the ground surface
  • After sunrise on November 2, improvement is forecast due to warming and vertical air exchange

Forecast for the night and morning of November 2

On the night of November 2, air quality in Tashkent is forecast to remain at the 'unhealthy' level on the international Air Quality Index (AQI), and at the 'yellow' level on the national index. This was reported by Zamon.uz citing data from environmental services.

Why the air stagnates

The deterioration is attributed to falling temperatures, weak wind, and a strong temperature inversion, which limit air exchange in the lower layers of the atmosphere. Under such conditions, PM2.5 and PM10 particles can accumulate in a layer close to the ground. An additional factor has been the slow movement of air masses around the city over the past 24 hours, which hinders the dispersion of pollutants.

When to expect improvement

According to forecasts, on November 2, after sunrise, air quality may improve due to rising temperatures and better vertical air exchange. The forecast is preliminary: it concerns expected rather than already recorded figures, and actual index values may differ from calculated ones.
