The key facts

  • By December 15, Tashkent buses will be equipped with mobile cameras to record violations in dedicated lanes
  • From November 1, raids have been intensified against the movement and stopping of passenger cars in the 'A' lanes
  • Cameras are already operating on Lutfi and Fargona Yuli streets

Assignment of the capital's Council

The Council of People's Deputies of Tashkent adopted a resolution under which the Road Traffic Safety Directorate of the capital's Main Department of Internal Affairs, the Main Department of Transport and Road Transport Infrastructure Development, and JSC Toshshahartranshizmat are instructed to introduce the practice of installing mobile video cameras in the front part of buses by December 15. This was reported by UzNews.uz.

How it will work

The cameras will automatically record traffic violations while the buses are moving, and their data is planned to be integrated with the unified database of the Road Traffic Safety Directorate. The difference from stationary cameras is that monitoring is carried out from a moving bus, meaning coverage of the 'A' lanes is not limited to fixed points.

Raids and already installed cameras

From November 1, the agencies were also instructed to intensify constant raids to curb the illegal movement and stopping of passenger and private cars in the dedicated 'A' lanes intended for public transport. Earlier, cameras to monitor entry into bus lanes had already been installed on Lutfi Street, as well as on Fargona Yuli Street — on a 6 km section in both directions. Drivers are fined for illegally entering bus and bicycle lanes, as well as stopping and parking there, based on camera recordings.
