The key facts

  • Nearly 80,000 citizens of Uzbekistan receive unemployment benefits
  • The maximum amount is 4 million 80,000 soums (three times the wage rate), for up to three months
  • The Ministry of Employment proposed extending the payment period to four months — parliamentary approval is required

How many people receive the benefit and under what conditions

Nearly 80,000 citizens of Uzbekistan receive unemployment benefits. This was announced at a press conference in Tashkent on October 28 by the head of a department at the Ministry of Employment, Sobir Khayitmurodov, as reported by Daryo.uz. To be granted the benefit, a citizen must have paid social tax for one year and eight months over the past five years. If employment agencies cannot find a job matching the person's qualifications, a special commission recognizes them as unemployed and assigns the payment.

Amount, duration and the proposed change

The maximum benefit amount is 4 million 80,000 soums — three times the wage rate. The payment is made over three months. The Ministry of Employment has proposed amending the legislation and extending the payment period to four months; according to Khayitmurodov, the change could be adopted after parliamentary approval — that is, for now it is only a proposal, not an existing rule.

Training and employment context

Citizens who wish to learn a new profession can also receive the benefit: according to the ministry, almost all 80,000 recipients have been referred to vocational training, and during their studies their expenses are covered and they receive a stipend. Daryo.uz also recalls previously published ministry data: from January to September 2026, the poverty rate in the country fell from 5.8% to 3.6%, 824,000 citizens found permanent jobs, the incomes of about 4.14 million people were increased, and the employment of 980,000 people was moved out of the informal sector.
