A new recreation area in the Almazar district

Work has begun in Tashkent's Almazar district on creating a park with an artificial lake, the district administration reported (Gazeta, UzNews.uz). The recreation area will be located on Keles Yuli street, on a plot between the Small Ring Road and Karakamysh street — this is the location given by Gazeta citing the khokimiyat; UzNews.uz and Daryo.uz indicate only Keles Yuli street.

Project parameters

According to the project, the artificial lake will cover 5,017 square meters (about 0.5 hectares), with a depth of 2 meters and a water volume of 10,000 cubic meters. Pedestrian paths and a separate cycling path with a total length of 2 km will be built around the lake, and 200 new trees will be planted. The stated goal of the project is to improve the appearance of the area and the environmental situation, and to create a modern recreation spot for residents and visitors of the district.

The fate of existing trees

The khokimiyat assures that during construction and landscaping, all existing long-standing trees will be preserved in place, and some small trees will be transplanted to other suitable plots under specialists' supervision with measures to ensure their survival. UzNews.uz quotes this directly from the administration's statement.

Part of a citywide program

The project fits into a broader task of creating artificial water bodies in Tashkent. As Gazeta recalls, the plan to create artificial water bodies in the capital was announced in November 2025; in December, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev set the task of bringing Tashkent into the ranks of 300 cities with high environmental performance; and by April 2026, the number of artificial water bodies in the city is to reach 12, located in all districts with fountains, recreation areas and greenery around them.

Third project in a month

The Almazar project is the third such project to become known in October. On October 14, it was reported that construction had begun on a 1.7-hectare lake with a fountain in the Kumaryk mahalla of the Sergeli district — on the adjacent 5 hectares, walking and cycling paths, playgrounds and recreation areas are planned. On October 23, it became known that work had begun in the Kurgantepa mahalla of the Uchtepa district: the water body will be located in a 90-sotka recreation area, walking paths will be created around it, and 66 existing trees will be preserved. The publications do not report the completion timeline for the work in the Almazar district.
