The key facts
- Tashkent's migration increase for January–September 2026 was 26,070 people, of which 25,256 came from internal relocations
- Tashkent leads the regions of Uzbekistan in absolute migration growth
- The republic's overall migration balance for the nine months was negative: minus 4,284 people
The capital continues to attract internal migrants
In the first nine months of 2026, Tashkent's migration-driven population increase amounted to 26,070 people. These figures were published by the National Statistics Committee, as cited by UzNews.uz.
Who is moving, and where
From January to September, 91,142 people arrived in the capital: 89,746 moved from other regions of Uzbekistan and only 1,396 came from foreign countries. Meanwhile, 65,072 people left Tashkent, of whom 64,490 moved to other regions of the republic and 582 went abroad. Thus, the increase from internal movements was 25,256 people, while international migration contributed only 814. Tashkent became the leader among the country's regions in absolute migration growth.
The nationwide picture contrasts with the capital's
The capital's figures stand out noticeably against the country as a whole. Over nine months, Uzbekistan registered 262,860 arrivals and 267,144 departures, with 2,114 people arriving from abroad and 6,398 leaving the country. As a result, the republic's overall migration balance turned out to be negative — minus 4,284 people. In other words, the population inflow into Tashkent offsets the outflow from other regions within the country, whereas international migration for the republic as a whole shows a negative balance — this conclusion follows from comparing the published figures and is an editorial observation.
