The key facts

  • A Center for a Specialized Atmospheric Laboratory has been established under the National Committee for Ecology and Climate Change — by presidential decree
  • Air samples are collected with special filters in all districts of Tashkent and analyzed in the laboratory
  • Experts note the influence of weather: lack of precipitation increases dust levels, and temperature inversions intensify the accumulation of pollutants

What is happening

Air pollution, especially during the autumn-winter season, remains one of the pressing environmental problems in Uzbekistan. To identify pollution sources and contributing factors, a Center for a Specialized Atmospheric Laboratory has been established under the National Committee for Ecology and Climate Change by a presidential decree. This was reported by Zamon.uz.

How the research is conducted

The head of the center, Doctor of Technical Sciences Zikrilla Alimov, noted that the laboratory, using advanced international experience and modern equipment, studies the sources of substances polluting the atmosphere. The research is expected to show which factors have the greatest impact on air pollution. Currently, air samples are being collected with special filters from all districts of Tashkent and analyzed in the laboratory: the sources of pollutants, their impact on air quality, and their connection with weather conditions are being studied. In the future, this experience is planned to be widely implemented across the entire republic.

Why the air becomes more polluted in autumn and winter

Experts emphasize that air quality is affected not only by human activity but also by weather conditions. A prolonged absence of precipitation can increase the amount of dust in the air, and during temperature inversions, the dispersion of pollutants in the surface layer is limited, intensifying their accumulation. The goal of the research is to determine the main causes of pollution and to develop scientifically grounded measures to prevent it and reduce its negative impact.
