  • On October 26, MGIK was evacuated due to a bomb threat; specialized services are working on the grounds

  • Students and staff were advised to remain outside the building until they are allowed to return

Evacuation at MGIK

On October 26, the Moscow State Institute of Culture (MGIK) announced an evacuation due to a security threat. The institution's representatives reported this in its Telegram channel, explaining that the cause was a bomb threat message received. Specialized services are operating on the institute's grounds, and specialists are carrying out verification procedures. Students and staff were advised to stay calm, follow the instructions of responsible staff, and remain outside the building until they are allowed to return.

Second case in several days

This is already the second such evacuation at the institute in recent days: on October 21, students and staff were evacuated from the MGIK building and its dormitory after a reported bomb threat. At that time, the check found no threat. According to Life.ru, at least ten universities in Moscow were evacuated following similar messages. In addition, the outlet previously reported the evacuation of School No. 1 in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky due to a message about a possible bomb threat: students and staff were led out of the building, emergency services with dog handlers checked the premises and the surrounding area, and the city education department reported the incident.

Why this matters

A second evacuation within a few days means that MGIK students and staff once again have to interrupt their classes and wait for the results of the check, while the services bear an additional workload. For those at the university, the practical consequence is the need to follow the instructions of responsible staff and not return to the building until official permission is given. The final results of the check were not provided in the publications as of October 26, so it remains unknown whether the threat was confirmed this time.
