Richard's First World Title
American gymnast Frederick Richard won gold in the floor exercise at the World Championships in Rotterdam, AFP reports. The 22-year-old athlete finished 0.333 points ahead of Britain's Jake Jarman, while Israel's Artem Dolgopyat took bronze. Simone Biles was present in the arena as a spectator, not as a competitor. This is Richard's first world title: previously he won bronze in the all-around at the 2021 World Championships in Antwerp and third place in the team event at the Paris 2024 Olympics.
Manukyan Confirms His Lead, Hashimoto Stumbles
In the pommel horse, 19-year-old Armenian Amlet Manukyan won with a score of 15.300, finishing 0.67 ahead of Italy's Gabriele Targetti. Third place went to his compatriot Mamikon Khachatryan. Manukyan, a specialist on this apparatus, also won qualification last Sunday; a year earlier, at the World Championships in Jakarta, he had finished fourth in his debut senior season. Japan's Daiki Hashimoto, who won the all-around title on Thursday, fared poorly: visibly nervous, he made mistakes in the final and finished last, in eighth place. Later on Saturday, the men's finals continued on the rings.
