European Parliament: centrist group leaders set for re-election amid alliance strains
On October 20 in Strasbourg, the EPP, S&D and Renew Europe will hold internal leadership elections. Manfred Weber, Iratxe García Pérez and Valérie Hayer are the only candidates, and their re-election is considered a foregone conclusion. After the elections, the leaders will discuss the future of the centrist coalition supporting Ursula von der Leyen, which over the past year has repeatedly come under strain due to the EPP's rapprochement with right-wing groups.
