Thousands of journalists protest in Istanbul and Ankara against pressure on the media
Rallies were held in Istanbul and Ankara with at least 3,000 participants in each city, according to police. Demonstrators protested against the arrest of journalists, the closure of media outlets, and the appointment of state administrators. According to the Turkish Journalists' Union, 11 journalists have been detained over two months, and police earlier in October halted the broadcast of the Halk TV channel.
