Poland Faces an F-16 Pilot Shortage: About 40 Trained Pilots for 47 Aircraft
According to Rzeczpospolita, the Polish Air Force has 47 F-16 fighters but only about 40 trained pilots, while at least 70 are needed for effective operation. Training a new pilot takes about two years, and some experienced pilots have been transferred to the F-35 program. The personnel shortage calls into question Poland's ability to quickly turn its large-scale arms purchases into real combat capability.
