Carney hinted that the US wants to 'break' Canada, on the eve of Alberta's vote on a secession referendum
Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, speaking at a pre-Canada Day rally in Calgary, said that 'some beyond our borders' want to 'break' Canada in order to 'own it,' without naming the US directly. The statement came ahead of the Alberta vote, which will decide whether the province begins a legal process toward a secession referendum. Polls show that less than a quarter of Alberta's roughly 5 million residents support leaving Canada.
