China is building a self-propelled floating science 'island' with a displacement of 74 thousand tons
China's state-owned shipbuilding corporation CSSC has received an order to design and build the world's first self-propelled floating research platform for Shanghai Jiao Tong University. Construction will begin in 2028, with delivery to the customer scheduled for June 2030.
