In Sudan, a bread shortage threatens a new wave of famine: prices doubled in a week
In the third year of the war in Sudan, rising wheat prices, fuel shortages, and the collapse of the pound have led to the closure of most bakeries in Khartoum. The price of flatbread rose from 250 to 500 pounds in a week, and a family's entire salary goes only to bread. The UN warns of famine that has already affected more than 200,000 people.
