Canada disbands its avalanche rescue dog programme in the Rocky Mountains
Parks Canada is fully ending its canine search programme in Banff National Park as part of budget cuts of 145 million Canadian dollars. The last dog, Leroy, retired in August, and a trained replacement never took up service. A petition calling for the position to be restored has been signed by more than 5,000 people.
