In Yemen, fighting has cut off 800,000 people from access to humanitarian aid
Due to the escalation of the armed conflict between the Houthis and the internationally recognized government's forces in Yemen, 800,000 people have lost access to humanitarian aid, and over 18 million face daily food shortages, the UN World Food Programme reported. The situation is worst in Taiz, where more than 600,000 people, including 200,000 women and children, are cut off from aid. The Houthis are trying to retake the city and drive government forces off the strategically important Jabal Sabir mountain. Taiz is Yemen's third-largest city, with key highways leading to Aden, where the recognized government is based. The capital, Sanaa, is controlled by the Houthis.
