The Kremlin refrained from making predictions about Putin's visit to the G20

Press secretary of the Russian president Dmitry Peskov urged against jumping to conclusions about Vladimir Putin's possible trip to the December G20 summit in Miami, USA. 'I would not get that far ahead. We know that such trips are always accompanied by major logistical difficulties and problems,' he said in an interview with journalist Pavel Zarubin for the Vesti news service, as reported by Life.ru.

Logistics as an argument

As an example, Peskov cited the Russian delegation's trip to Geneva for trilateral talks on the Ukrainian settlement: despite the relatively short distance, the flight took nine hours. According to him, many such circumstances have to be taken into account when preparing international meetings. Thus, the question of Putin's participation in the summit remains open: the Kremlin separates it from the diplomatic preparations for the forum that are already underway.

Context: a trilateral meeting and the drafting of the declaration

The question arose in connection with whether Putin might travel to the United States after the supposed talks with Donald Trump and Xi Jinping. As Life.ru reported, preparations for a possible trilateral meeting of the leaders of Russia, the United States and China are nearing completion and are being carried out ahead of the APEC summit, which will take place on November 18–19 in Shenzhen, China.

Diplomatic work on the summit is already underway

Meanwhile, the December G20 meeting itself is being discussed at the diplomatic level. Earlier, Life.ru reported that the Russian Foreign Ministry hopes for the restoration of an equitable international dialogue thanks to the G20 summit in Miami. Deputy head of the ministry Alexander Pankin said that Moscow is taking part in drafting the forum's final declaration together with its BRICS partners and other states. Thus, Russia's participation in the substantive preparations for the forum is confirmed, while the question of the president's personal visit remains unanswered for now.

Meanwhile, Chancellor Merz has apparently decided to dictate to Trump the terms of inviting Putin to the G20 summit
